Things to be aware of when hiring a DJ!

Extremely Low Pricing

The average cost of a disc jockey for 4 hours in South Carolina is between $500-$700.  If someone gives you an extremely low price combined with the pressure of having to book right then over the phone, it is probably a “start-up dj” hurting for business.  DJ's whose rates that are extremely low often use amateur equipment and have a very poor music selection.  Most have little experience and may not even be in business by the time your event date arrives.

Contracts and Deposits

If a disc jockey fails to provide a contract for your event, be very careful!  I have heard horror stories about DJs not showing up for an event and never refunding your deposit.  Contracts are designed to protect you and your money.  Definitely sign a contract!

Unlimited Hours

Are you getting a deal if a disc jockey tells you he will play for an unlimited amount of time?
Not at all!  This claim implies you are getting something extra and the fact is most events last about 4 hours.  I have been to hundreds weddings, birthday parties, and other types of events, both as a DJ and as a guest and I have never seen one last over 5 hours.  The fact is, even though your event or party might be the best they have been to in a long time, people still have lives and they are not going to stay at your party for 5, 6 or 7 hours.

Dance floor lighting

Tasteful, yet dynamic dance floor lighting in sync with the music creates a festive atmosphere and motivates your guests to dance.  This versatile multi-effect light show is matched to the style of music being played and customized for the size of the facility in which the event is being held.  Don’t let a disc jockey tell you there is no need for lights because he is good enough to get people dancing without it.  He is just being lazy and doesn’t feel like setting them up.  All disc jockeys should be good enough to get people dancing without lights.  You should never be charged an additional fee for lighting.  You are paying a DJ for the total experience.  It should be part of the entertainment, not an extra charge.
